Erik’s Toy Box Blown Glass Christmas Ornament
Erik’s Toy Box Ornament – An ornament with a meaningful history! When our daughter Jenna was very small, her older brother bought her a white rabbit toy that was particularly special to her. She was very close to Erik and loved this toy–it was a funny looking stuffed white rabbit which she carried with her everywhere she went! As Jenna grew, the rabbit needed to be tossed. He was well worn and washing was tearing what little stitching he had left to pieces.
About 6 months before Erik passed away unexpectedly, he found the original white rabbit stuffed toy from a seller online. He bought it for his sister for Christmas–yes, an original new rabbit! Erik was an avid collector of things, one of which was toys. He wanted his sister to have this rabbit, and truth be told, he searched the whole world until he found another one. This special toy meant even more now that Erik has passed away and left her with a brand new toy to remember him by.
To honor Erik and his love for toys, we wanted to create a special ornament collection inspired by him. We told our designer that we wanted to do a toy box filled with all kinds of different toys. We didn’t tell him what kind of toys to put in it, nor did we mention the white rabbit stuffed animal. When the design came back to us for approval, the artist had intuitively placed a white rabbit inside the box. He knew nothing of the story, nothing of the white rabbit, and the only direction he was given was to do “a box with lots of toys” in it. Needless to say, there are some things in life that occur that are beyond coincidental. Those things are often the most heartwarming.
This ornament represents both the nostalgia of toys and childhood wonder, but it also represents the love and bonds we share with those who are close to us… though we may be separated by time, space, or even eternity. Love knows no boundaries. And something simple like a box full of toys can bring back a memory of happiness that can be enjoyed all year long, but even more so during the season of joy and celebration!
Each bulb is handcrafted by skilled artisans in Poland. Each ornament starts as a mold crafted from clay and casted into metal. These molds are then used as vehicles to shape into blown glass figures. Expert painters often spend hours carefully painting and detailing each piece with delicate hands.
Because of the nature of blown glass ornaments, it is recommended to keep them stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Ensure the life of the ornament by storing in rigid boxes filled with padding. Please note that these ornaments are not toys and can break if mishandled, causing injury.
